Procurement

Introduction

The purchase of raw materials plays a vital role in meeting the high quality requirements placed on the products. For example, scrap must be free of any contamination, radioactivity, and possible hollow and explosive objects, as well as closed containers. In addition to scrap, electrodes, alloys, refractory materials, lime and coal are purchased in accordance with strict criteria to ensure that the production at BSW runs smoothly. To facilitate compliance with these criteria, one-day seminars are held on request that cover topics of steel production, scrap specifications, and quality assurance for scrap trading companies. Managing raw materials well results in good products and sustainable responsibility for resources – completely in line with the corporate goals of BSW.

Products and quality

We buy for the BSW the scrap types of chips, sheets, shear scrap, demolition scrap, shredder and packages. The individual scrap types are shown below, including the quality requirements that the BSW needs.
